What is a Book Launcher?

Some of you may have looked at Bethel's byline and asked yourself, "What is a book launcher, anyway?" Fortunately for you, Bethel has the answer to that question:

"'Book launch' is a term usually used to describe the day a book is officially made available to the public, but the term may also describe the marketing efforts surrounding the release of a book. While some authors rely solely on their publisher or marketing services to promote their books, a common practice is for the author or publisher to organize a book launch team. After being selecting through an application process, these team members are asked to review the book and promote it on social media. As a thank you, the publisher or author usually sends the team members a free copy of the book (either physical or digital) in advance so that the review can be ready on launch day. They may also be other incentives for team members to apply and review the book, such as free rewards or interaction with the author online through social media or live stream.

"So a book launcher can be defined one of two ways. The first is a person who participates in multiple book launches as a team member. The second is someone who manages a book launch team on behalf of an author or publisher. In my case, it happens to be both."

Bethel's book launcher journey

In 2015, Bethel got accepted onto her first book launch team. Well, technically, it was a "relaunch team", but it was still a turning point for Bethel and her writing career. During the relaunch of the book Pulling Back the Shades, she experienced the comradery of being part of a team promoting a book and writing her first book review. Eventually, Bethel started looking for book launching opportunities. Having now participated in over eighteen Christian book launches, Bethel has had the opportunity to be part of the launch of books that became New York Times Bestsellers, including:

  • It's Not What You Think by Jefferson Bethke
  • Love that Lasts by Jefferson and Alyssa Bethke
  • Daring to Hope by Katie Davis Majors
  • Everybody Always by Bob Goff

In addition, Bethel has also had the opportunity to lead a few smaller book launches and gain further insight into the publishing industry through the her own experiences with self-publishing and book marketing. All of these experiences have put Bethel in an excellent position to help authors and publishers with their book launches.
